News Letter August 2017

Hello all,

Well a bit of an unpredictable summer so far. Hope that it not affecting the sailing season too much.

The BSC clubhouse will be opening early on Sunday the 20th of August to enable people to watch the Clipper Race yachts sail out of the River Mersey at the start of their round the world journey. Open from 11:30 to 13:30.

It’s time to start submitting your entries for the 2017 BSC Photo completion. The theme this year is anything Nautical, use your imagination and surprise me. Usual rules apply, picture should have been taken in the last year, should follow the theme requested, etc.…

Closing date will be the end of October to allow time for the winners name to be engraved onto the trophy.

It would help me if an A4 print was left behind the bar in an envelope for my attention and the digital image sent to me at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Ian has forwarded the notice below regarding the Coastguard VHF channels -

The VHF channels HM Coastguard uses to broadcast Maritime Safety Information(MSI) are changing. From mid-morning on Wednesday 6th September 2017 the Coastguard will no longer broadcast VHF 23, 84 and 86. It will instead use VHF 62,63 and 64. The use of channel 10 for MSI and pollution control (back-up) is unchanged. MSI broadcasts will continue to be announced by Coastguard on Channel 16.
